Welcome to the North-East Region (NER) WOCN® Scholarship program page.

The Purpose of the NER–WOCN® Scholarship is to support individuals committed to working with patients who have, or are at risk for developing, wounds as well as persons who have a fecal or urinary diversion or incontinence.  

The WOCN® Society’s Mission Statement

The WOCN® Society is a professional nursing society that supports its members by promoting educational, clinical and research opportunities to advance the practice and guide the delivery of expert healthcare to individuals with wounds, ostomies, and incontinence.

Statement of Nondiscrimination Policy

The North-East Region (NER) of the WOCN® does not discriminate among applicants on the basis of age, gender, race, religion, national origin, disability, sexual orientation or marital status.

Current Scholarship Criteria

In 2017, three (3) $1,000 scholarships are available for nurses who:

  1. Reside in the North-East Region (New Jersey, New York, or Pennsylvania)

  2. Have been accepted to a WOCN-accredited  Wound, Ostomy, and Continence Nursing Education Program (WOCNEP), or

  3. Are currently enrolled in a WOCN-accredited WOCNEP program, or

  4. Successfully completed a WOCN-accredited WOCNEP program in the last 3 to 6 months.

Application Process and Considerations

A complete application consists of the following:

  1. Applicant contact information, including place of residence.

  2. Personal statement describing your interest in the discipline (100-150 words).

  3. A document from the WOCN-accredited Wound, Ostomy, and Continence Nursing Education Program (WOCNEP) that the applicant meets one of the 3 eligibility criteria listed.

  4. Two letters of recommendation from a professional associate or current employer to support applicant’s commitment to the WOCN profession.

  5. Proof of National WOCN® membership in good standing - North-East Region WOCN® membership.


Scholarship Committee Process

All scholarship applications received on or before August 1, 2017 will be reviewed for eligibility (e.g., residency) and completeness by the NER WOCN® President-Elect/Chair and distributed to the Scholarship Committee after all applicant identifying information has been redacted and a unique identifying number assigned.

Please note the following:

Preference will be given to full scope of WOCN® practice applicants. The application submission deadline is August 1, 2017. Winners will be announced at the NER WOCN® Regional Fall Conference. Winners will be required to submit a photograph and a 150-200 word essay/statement describing their past, current, or future contributions to the WOCN® Nursing Specialty Practice. The winner will be asked to provide written permission for the NER WOCN® to place the essay and photo on the Scholarship Winners page of the NER WOCN® website.
